Bostik’s recyclable laminating adhesive for PE film tested by RecyClass
15 Dec 2020

The laminating adhesive ‘Bostik SF10M’ by Bostik can be recycled in a polyethylene (PE) film recycling stream, according to an analysis done by an independent laboratory. This innovative technology made of a solvent-free aromatic polyurethane-based adhesive is used to produce multilayer LDPE films.

Following the analysis carried out by Proplast and as per the RecyClass Recyclability Evaluation Protocol for PE films, RecyClass approved the laminating adhesive ‘Bostik SF10M’ as fully compatible with recycling. The laboratory analysis shows that the recyclates produced after the recycling process of this material may be used in high quality applications such as PE blown films with up to 25% of this material.

According to the laboratory results ‘Bostik SF10M’ technology conforms to the current European PE film recycling stream provided it is used under specific conditions. These include, among others [1], the limit on the use of ‘Bostik SF10M’ as the laminating adhesive, which must be limited to 1.6% of the total weight of the film. Another precondition is the presumption that the final density of the film does not exceed 1 g/cm3.

The results obtained from the testing contribute to the constructive developments within the design for recycling for PE films and to improving recycling rates of this stream.
