RECYCLASS ROADMAP
2026-2028

The plastics industry faces a pivotal moment as the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) shifts the focus from voluntary circularity to mandatory compliance by 2030, with full recyclability required by 2035. RecyClass, a cornerstone of this transition, empowers stakeholders with science-based tools, transparent certifications, and expertise to navigate this evolving landscape. The 2026–2028 Roadmap outlines a strategic roadmap across six pillars to deliver tools to anticipate PPWR requirements and long-term circularity.

ROADMAP PILLARS

Design for Recycling (DfR) & Recyclability Methodology Enhancement

Adapt the Recyclability Methodology to anticipate alignment with upcoming legislation and enable comparison of recyclability scores generated through the RecyClass Methodology against such targets. The upgraded Online Tool will offer both basic self-assessment functionalities and advanced features to compare performance with regulations.

Innovation and R&D Acceleration

Scaling the RecyClass Technology Approval Platform (TechAp Tool) to conduct more than 100 tests annually, automating workflows, and extending it to the Automotive & EEE branch to cut innovation costs and maintain the reliability of RecyClass technical assessments.

Certification Framework Evolution

Evolving our trusted certification schemes to meet future market and regulatory demands, while ensuring auditor readiness to maintain RecyClass as the industry's trusted benchmark for certifying circular plastics.

Digital Transformation

Implementing digitalisation of certificates, blockchain-based transactions and integration with the Digital Product Passport (DPP), thereby promoting traceability and reducing administrative burdens in a regulation-driven market.

Recycled Content Harmonisation

Aligning the certification schemes with calculation methods and definitions as outlined in the PPWR and national requirements. This extends also to requirements such as sustainability criteria, mirror clauses for imports or the national eco-modulation fees – with the aim of providing a unified methodology to streamline reporting.

RecyClass Academy Expansion

Empowering stakeholders with expert knowledge and skills development. The RecyClass Academy will scale up, diving deeper into topics covering both recyclability and the use of recycled plastics.
